Function
- in the cytoplasm, may be involved in intracellular trafficking of muscle cells
- in the nucleus, may be involved in regulation of muscle- specific genes
- may play a role in the control of tumor development & progression
- restored MYO18B expression in lung cancer cells suppresses anchorage-independent growth
- may interact with F actin through the GPA motif (Gly/Pro/Ala-rich)
Structure
Compartment
- cytoplasm, nucleus, myofibril, sarcomere
- punctate pattern in undifferentiated myoblasts
- nuclear, in primary cardiomyocytes & adult muscle
- partial sarcomeric location was found in some cardiomyocytes
Alternative splicing
named isoforms=2
Expression
- selectively expressed in cardiac muscle & skeletal muscle
- weakly expressed in testis, pancreas, placenta, prostate, lung & thymus
Pathology
- frequently deleted, mutated, & hypermethylated in lung cancers
