Function

• myosins are actin-based motor molecules with ATPase activity
• nconventional myosins serve in intracellular movements
• their highly divergent tails are presumed to bind to membranous compartments, which would be moved relative to actin filaments

• contains 1 IQ domain
• contains 1 myosin head-like domain
• contains 1 SH3 domain

Compartment

• cytoplasm
• in cultured podocytes, it localizes close to & is associated with the cytoplasmic membrane, with enrichment at the lamellipodia tips

Expression

• in the kidney, it is predominantly expressed in the glomerulus
• expressed in podocytes

Pathology

• defects in MYO1E are the cause of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis type 6
