Function
- myosins are actin-based motor molecules with ATPase activity
- nconventional myosins serve in intracellular movements
- their highly divergent tails are presumed to bind to membranous compartments, which would be moved relative to actin filaments
Structure
- contains 1 IQ domain
- contains 1 myosin head-like domain
- contains 1 SH3 domain
Compartment
- cytoplasm
- in cultured podocytes, it localizes close to & is associated with the cytoplasmic membrane, with enrichment at the lamellipodia tips
Expression
- in the kidney, it is predominantly expressed in the glomerulus
- expressed in podocytes
Pathology
- defects in MYO1E are the cause of focal segmental glomerulosclerosis type 6
