Introduction
2nd most commonly used self-report inventory for depression after the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI).
The ZDSRS has 20 items similar to the BDI. Each item is rated for frequency of occurrence on a scale ranging from 1 'little of the time' to 4 'most of the time'.
Disadvantages
- symptoms that occur frequently, but may not be severe, receive a high rating
- overclassifies non-depressed elderly due to items reflecting physical symptoms
