Introduction
Hemosiderin is aggregated, partially deproteinized ferritin which together within ferritin account for the bulk of total body iron stores. In contrast to ferritin, hemosiderin is insoluble in aqueous solutions. Release of Fe(II) from ferritin is much faster than release from hemosiderin. Like ferritin, hemosiderin is found predominantly in cells of the liver, spleen, & bone marrow.
