Introduction

The larger of the two terminal branches of the popliteal artery.

Branches

• peroneal artery
• lateral & medial posterior malleolar artery
• lateral & medial plantar artery

Physical examination

The posterior tibial pulse should be palpable posterior to the medial malleolus.
