bitemporal hemianopia

Introduction

Loss of the temporal or lateral field of vision in both eyes.

Etiology

• suggest lesion involving the optic chiasm
  • pituitary apoplexy
    • abrupt onset
  • suprasellar extension* of a pituitary tumor in the sella turcica
    • gradual onset

* suprasellar mass lesion

Radiology

• MRI neuroimaging with gadolinium contrast (renal function CKD3 or better)
