Etiology
- sign of carpal tunnel syndrome (Tinel's sign at the wrist)
- sign of ulnar neuropathy or cubital tunnel syndrome (Tinel's sign at the wrist)
Procedure
- Tinel's sign at the wrist
- tingling or electrical sensations or paresthesias in the distribution of the median nerve after percussing lightly with a finger over the course of the median nerve in the carpa; tunnel (i.e. distal region of the wrist).
- Tinel's sign at the elbow
- localize the ulnar nerve in the groove between the olecranon process & the medial epicondyle of the elbow
- repeatedly tap the ulnar nerve with the index finger, causing a tingling sensation in the ulnar distribution of the forearm & hand distal to the tapping point
