Introduction

The most common benign breast neoplasm.

Epidemiology

  • commonly occurs in young women in their teens & 20's

Clinical manifestations

  • generally smooth, nontender & freely mobile
  • the lesions continue to grow

Radiology

  • initial evaluation should include ultrasound, since mammograms are generally unreliable in young women

Differential diagnosis

Management

  • surgical excision if > 2 cm
    • biopsy-proven fibroadenomas < 2 cm should not be routinely removed[2]
