Etiology
* Erythema marginatum is one of the diagnostic criteria for rheumatic fever
* 10% of children with 1st attack of rheumatic fever[4]
* overall, < 5% of patients with rheumatic fever[4]
Clinical manifestations
- painless, itchless, macular, faintly red with a ring-like appearance (expanding edges with clearing at center)
- lesions are generally limited to the trunk & proximal limbs
- duration from hours to days
