Etiology
- Leishmania braziliensis
- rarely other species of Leishmania
Epidemiology
- Mexico, Central & South America
Clinical manifestations
- cutaneous lesions similar to cutaneous leishmaniasis, more severe, longer in duration with involvement of mucous membranes
- nasal, oral & pharyngeal areas most frequently involved
- disfiguring lesions many result from erosions of soft tissue & cartilage
