Indications

similar to gallium scan

• infections
  • acute interstitial nephritis
  • internal abscess
  • pyelonephritis
  • fever of unknown origin
• hematopoietic malignancies
  • lymphoma
  • leukemia

Procedure

• leukocytes (mostly neutrophils) are removed by apheresis, tagged with Indium-111, & then injected intravenously
• the tagged leukocytes subsequently localize to areas of relatively high leukocyte activity (infection, lymphoma, leukemia)
