may be associated with underlying malignancy

Clinical manifestations

• most patients have skin lesions & arthritis
• skin
  • red-brown papules & nodules
  • most commonly on dorsal aspect of hands & on face
• mucosa
  • 50% of patients
  • lips, buccal mucosa, tongue, gingiva, or nasal mucosa
• joints - arthritis:
  • severely destructive & mutilating
  • interphalangeal joints of hand
    • 'opera glass hand'
    • 'telecsope fingers
  • knees
  • wrists
  • hips
  • ankles
  • feet
  • elbows
  • spine
• bones
• viscera
