Indications
- intradermal skin test used in the diagnosis of coccidioidomycosis
- differentiation of coccidioidomycosis from histoplasmosis, sarcoidosis, other mycotic or mycobacterial infection
- may be used to assess anergy in endemic areas
Dosage
Injection: 1:100 (1 mL)
Procedure
- 0.1 mL of a 1:100 dilution of Spherulin (coccidioidin) in the flexor suface of the forearm
- a 5 mm or more induration is considered positive
- erythema without induration is considered negative
- test is read at 24 & 48 hours
- a positive reaction indicateds past or present infection with Coccidioides immitis
- a negative test indicated the individual
- has not been sensitized to the coccidioidin antigen
- the individual is anergic or has lost sensitivity
