skin end point titration (Rinkel method)

Introduction

Unproven method used to guide immunotherapy.

Procedure

• serial intradermal testing is performed with various dilutions of allergen
• based upon the end point dilution dividing positive vs. negative response, optimal doses of allergen as chosen for immunotherapy

Notes

• dose of allergen chosen by this method is rarely large enough for effective immunotherapy
• no more effective than placebo for treating allergic rhinitis
