Amsler grid (AG)

Introduction

A self-monitoring device for patients with macular degeneration.

Procedure

• a 20 x 20 grid of 5 mm squares formed by white lines on a black background
• the patient focuses on the central white dot of the grid & notes the presence of metamorphopsia, micropsia or scotoma
• any of these symptoms should prompt evaluation by an ophthalmologist
