Etiology
- spontaneous (20%)
- exposure to bovine factor V present in topical thrombin or 'surgical glue' used in surgical procedures (80%)
Epidemiology
uncommon
Pathology
- heterologous antibodies to bovine factor V cross-react with human factor V
- serious, even fatal bleeding may occur
