magenblase (gastric blubble) syndrome

Etiology

• aerophagia

Pathology

• air trapping in the gastric fundus below the gastroesophageal junction by fluid
• occurs in association with aerophagia when the patient lies supine after a large meal
• gas becomes trapped in the gastric fundus, unable to be belched because of fluid between the gas & the lower esophageal sphincter

Clinical manifestations

• postprandial fullness/discomfort/pressure

Radiology

• X-ray shows air in the gastric fundus
