Introduction
Acute physiology & chronic health evaluation.
The most widely used method of assessing the severity of illness in acutely ill patients in intensive care units.
Apache II & Apache III scoring systems:
Derives severity score from underlying disease & chronic health status. Other points for 12 continuous physiologic variables measured with 12 hours of ICU admission.[2] Scores > 25 suggest high-risk patient. Apache II scores cannot predict outcomes.
Apache III scores require proprietary computer software.
Apache III scores have a maximum score of 252.
