Introduction
Ablation of a region of the thalamus by sterotactic surgery.
Indications
- relief of intractable pain
- involuntary movements (tremor)
- epilepsy
- emotional disturbances (rare)
Complications
- neurologic deficits are uncommon
- undesirable personality changes are uncommon
