Indications

• treatment of premalignant lesions of the uterine cervix

Contraindications

• not appropriate for initial evaluation of a cervical mass

Procedure

• excision of a cone of tissue, especially mucosa of the uterine cervix
• excision can be performed using
  • scalpel
  • CO2 laser
  • loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP)
