Introduction
Assessment of decisional capacity evaluates the patient's ability to make informed consent.
Key elements for decision-making capacity:
- demonstrate understanding of the proposed treatment & alternatives
- demonstrate an understanding of the consequences of various options
- be able to communicate the decisions
- reasonably explain rationale for choosing particular option
