- 1659 patients, age 40-79
- 60-99% carotid stenosis
- median 2.7 year follow-up
- primary endpoint: 5 year risk of ipsilateral stroke, perioperative stroke or death
Results:
- endpoint reached in
- 11% of medically treated patients
- 4% of surgically treated patients

- Men 12% medical vs 4% surgical
- Women 9% medical vs 7% surgical
