Introduction
Randomized, double-blind study
1096 patients, uncontrolled on lisinopril 20 mg QD
Duration of study: 8 weeks
Groups
- 40 mg of lisinopril QD
- 20 mg of lisinopril QD plus candesartan 16 mg for 2 weeks, then 32 mg for 6 weeks
Results:
- addition of candesartan improved BP control* better than increasing lisinopril 42.7% vs 36.9%
* as measured by blood pressure < 140/90 blood pressure reduction 3.1/1.9 mm Hg better in candesartan group overall blood pressure reductions 9.5-11.6/7.4-8.3 candasartan group 6.2-8.7/5.9-6.2 in the lisinopril only group
