malingering/Hoover test

Indications

• identification of functional neurologic disorder, functional weakness

Procedure

• with hand under affected knee, test hip extension
  • have the patient push down against your hand
  • hip extension is weak

with hand on contralateral thigh, have the patient hip flex against your hand, while continuing to push against your hand under his/her affected knee

• hip extension is normal
