Advantages

• protects airway by preventing posterior movement of tongue
• generally tolerated by conscious patient

Disadvantages

• somewhat more difficult to insert than oral airway

• measure nares to angle of jaw
• cut to size
• insert through nostril
• insert with bevel side toward nasal septum
