Introduction
Amino acid found uniquely in elastin.
Structure
- composed of 4 lysine residues, facilitating cross-linking of multiple peptide chains
- the 4 lysine groups combine to form a pyridinium nucleus
- desmosine is associated with alanine on the N terminal side
- alanine association facilitates bonding pairs of tropoelastin[4]
