Contraindications
- insufficient evidence to recommend for or against digital breast tomosynthesis (3-D digital mammography) in women with dense breasts with negative mammogram
Adverse effects
- digital breast tomosynthesis exposes the patient to twice as much radiation as conventional mammography
Procedure
- digital tomosynthesis uses a moving x-ray source & digital detector to capture images at different angles.
- a computer program reconstructs the two-dimensional images into a three-dimensional image of the breast
