Clinical manifestations
- a pop in the posterior thigh while running may be noted
- pain exacerbated by ambulation
- tenderness & ecchymosis along the posterior-medial aspect of upper leg with moderate severity strains
- no tenderness at ishcial tuberosity (insertion site of hamstring tendons)
- resisted knee flexion reproduces pain, may show minor weakness
Management
- RICED: rest, ice, compression, NSAIDs
