Epidemiology
- transmitted to humans mostly from guinea pigs
- transmission also may occur from cats, dogs, rabbits, rodents, & hedgehogs
Laboratory
- cultures on Sabouraud dextrose agar & lactophenol cotton blue stain
- DNA sequencing of the internal transcribed spacer region of the ribosomal DNA for confirmation[1]
