Indications
- prevention of repetitive sub-concussive traumatic brain injury in athletes >= 13 years of age
Procedure
- C-shaped collar worn around the neck during sports activities
- collar can be worn for up to 4 hours at a time
- collar should be replaced after 2 years of use
Mechanism of action
- applies compressive force to the internal jugular veins in the neck, increasing blood volume to help reduce movement of the brain within the cranial cavity during head impacts
- protects brain from effects of repetitive sub-concussive head impacts
