Structure

• immediately adjacent to the distal urethra in females
• empty through ducts, bilaterally just outside the urethral meatus

Pathology

• a cyst may form if a duct is obstructed, generally from infection
• most cysts < 1 cm & asymptomatic
• when enlarged, cysts may cause urethral obstruction or recurrent urinary tract infections or may cause an abscess
