Indications
- patients with multiple comorbidities*
* fewer complications & risks than with total hip arthroplasty
Procedure
- hemiarthoplasty of hip replaces head of femur & leaves acetabulum
- cemented hemiarthroplasty results in modest but better quality of life & lower risk of periprosthetic fracture than uncemented hemiarthroplasty in adults > 60 years with intracapsular hip fracture[4]
Complications
- total hip arthroplasty vs hemiarthroplasty have similar reoperation rates after 2 years[2]
