Indications

* fewer complications & risks than with total hip arthroplasty

hemiarthoplasty of hip replaces head of femur & leaves acetabulum
cemented hemiarthroplasty results in modest but better quality of life & lower risk of periprosthetic fracture than uncemented hemiarthroplasty in adults > 60 years with intracapsular hip fracture^[4]

total hip arthroplasty vs hemiarthroplasty have similar reoperation rates after 2 years^[2]
