conversion chemotherapy

Indications

• shrinking a neoplasm that is unresectable due to its location, generally due to proximity to critical vascular structures

Clinical significance

• shrinking a previously unresectable neoplasm may allow an adequate plane of resection

Notes

• conversion chemotherapy differs from neoadjuvant chemotherapy in that the latter is provided to patients who have resectable disease preoperatively
