Introduction
Tradename: Fergon. (also see ferrous sulfate) 320 mg = about 60 mg elemental iron
Indications
prevention & treatment of iron deficiency
Contraindications
Dosage
- 320-640 mg PO TID
- NO benefit to > 60 mg (elemental iron) QD[2][3]
- NO benefit to > 15 mg (elemental iron) QD in elderly[4]
Tabs: 300, 320 325 mg.
Elixir: 300 mg/5 mL. 5-10 mL TID
Pharmacokinetics
- absorption may be better than ferrous sulfate
- elimination in urine
Adverse effects
- may be better tolerated than ferrous sulfate
