Indications
- alternate to the pulmonary embolism severity index for identifying low-risk pulmonary embolism
Procedure
5 independent predictors* of 30-day mortality:
- heart rate (< 80, 81-100, > 100 beats/min)
- PaO2 (arterial partial pressure of oxygen)
- (> 80, 60-79, < 60 mm Hg)
- systolic blood pressure (> 120, 100-199, < 100 mm Hg)
- diastolic blood pressure (> 80, 64-79, < 65 mm Hg)
- modified electrocardiographic score (< 2, 2-4, > 4)
* 1-3 points each
Interpretation
- 30-day mortality rates
- 0% in low risk (0 -6 points)
- 7.5-8.5% in intermediate risk (7-10 points)
- 18.2-18.8% in high-risk patients (> 10 points)
