• counsel, support & bring strength to family &/or staff if patient decides to discontinue life-support systems
• bring solace & comfort if spouse or family member is grieving due to death of a loved one
• provide for all needs ... spiritual, emotional, family
• ensure that appropriate representative for a patient's religious affiliation (or not) is included on each multidisciplinary team
