Function

• nuclear-encoded (RMRP gene) mitochondrial RNA associated with mitochondrial RNA-processing endoribonuclease (RNase MRP) which cleaves mitochondrial RNA complementary to the light chain of the D loop
• TERT interacts with RMRP RNA
  • TERT & RMRP form a ribonucleoprotein complex that has
    • RNA-dependent RNA polymerase activity
    • produces double-stranded RNAs that can be processed into siRNA
