Etiology

• meralgia paresthetica
• femoral fracture, including atypical femoral fracture (subtrochanteric stress fracture) due to bisphosphonate use (rare)
• shingles (pain may precede rash by hour to a day or so)
• hip osteoarthritis (pain on rotation of hip)
• L3 radiculopathy
