* likely of benefit for all newborns of all mammals
Clinical significance
- 36% decrease in mortality among pre-term newborns
- decrease in neonatal sepsis (47%), hypothermia, hypoglycemia, & hospital readmission
- lesser degree of benefit in full-term infants[1]
