Notes
- transparent optical device with flat, polished surfaces that refract light
- at least 2 of the flat surfaces have an angle between them
- the angle between the surfaces dependd on the application
- traditional geometrical shape is that of a triangular prism with a triangular base and rectangular sides
- some optical prism are not in the shape of geometric prisms
- prisms can be made from any material that is transparent to the wavelengths for which they are designed, including glass, plastic & fluorite
