penile fracture

Etiology

• trauma to an erect penis

Pathology

• tear in the tunica albuginea
• hemorrhage of blood outside the corpora, resulting in hematoma

Clinical manifestations

• pain, immediate loss of errection
• eggplant deformity (swelling, discoloration, & deviation away from the defect in the tunica albuginea)
• blood may extravasate through the urethra

Complications

• erectile dysfunction due to disfiguring plaque formation
• penile curvature
• nerve injury

Management

• surgical repair
