Epidemiology
- 3 times more common in male fetuses
Pathology
- dilation of the renal pelvis
Complications
- may be 'soft' marker for Down's syndrome
Management
- in most cases, pyelectasis resolves spontaneously during gestation without clinical manifestations
- newborns with unresolved pyelectasis may experience urological problems requiring surgery
