• transmitted by ticks, mosquitoes
• named after Bourbon County, where a Kansas farmer who died from the virus in 2014 had lived

Clinical manifestations

• fever
• myalgias
• anorexia

Laboratory

• elevated serum transaminases
• completed blood count
  • lymphopenia*

• respiratory failure
• renal failure
• death*
