Epidemiology

• females
• rare or underdiagnosed

Pathology

• a dilated ovarian vein compresses the ureter
• the right ovarian vein is most commonly involved

Clinical manifestations

• colicky abdominal pain, back pain &/or pelvic pain
  • the pain can worsen when supine or between ovulation & menstruation

Radiology

• pelvic ultrasound
• pelvic CT angiography

Complications

• urinary tract infection, pyelonephritis

Management

• analgesia
• surgical ablation of the dilated vein
