Introduction
A calculation used to assess severity of alcoholic hepatitis & assess criteria for treatment with glucocorticoids.[2]
4.6 x (PT - control) + serum bilirubin (umol/L)
Discriminant factor of > 32 predicts mortality with specificity of ~65%[1]
Consider prednisolone if discriminant factor of > 32[2]
Notes
- pentoxifylline may be beneficial if glucocorticoids are contraindicated[3]
