high power field (hpf, under oil)

Introduction

Magnification of tissue under a microscope about 400-fold. Stained section are generally viewed with a thin film of oil between the tissue & lens of the microscope. Resolution is about 1-2 uM. Bacteria are close to the limits of resolution.
