Diminished color.

Tissue staining in less than the normal amount of pigment.

Clinical significance

• frequently used in reference to appearance of erythrocytes stained with Wright's stain, viewed under the microscope
• erythrocyte hypochromia is characteristic of diminished erythrocyte hemoglobin & hypochromic anemia
