Introduction

The end of a strand of DNA or RNA of which the terminal ribose moiety contains an unbound 3 hydroxyl group (3'OH). The 5'OH is bound in a phosphodiester linkage. It is the 3'end to which nucleotides complementary to a DNA template are added to the elongating chain during DNA or RNA synthesis.
