synovial chondromatosis; Reichel's syndrome; Reichel-Jones-Henderson syndrome

Clinical manifestations

• arthralgia for months to years
• no relief with exercise, steroid injection or heat
• restriction of joint movement
• 3 defined stages:
  • early: no joint mice, active synovial disease
  • transitional: active synovial disease, joint mice
  • late: joint mice, no synovial disease;

Radiology

• shows nothing on X-ray, until joint mice appear

Differential diagnosis

• tendonitis
• arthritis

Management

• surgical removal of joint mice
• partial or total synovectomy
