Procedure

• Explanation:
  • explanation of the problem in the patients own words
• Treatments:
  • past treatments, including alternative medicine
• Healers:
  • other healers involved in the patient's care
    • other healthcare providers
    • alternative medicine practitioners
• Negotiate:
  • negotiate with patient & caregiver(s) as to which treatments the patient will accept & participate in
• Intervene
  • put together a care plan that is acceptable to both the patient (& caregiver) & provider
• Collaborate:
  • build a trusting provider-patient relationship
  • incorporate caregiver(s) into the alliance
• Spirtuality:
  • inquire about spiritual beliefs, & how these may impact healthcare preferences
